Overview

Levantine Translator is a language-learning and translation app focused on Levantine Arabic. The current Android build includes AI translation, dictionary explanations, word-detail generation, tutor chat, voice playback, speech input, image-based text scan, saved words, translation history, and optional premium features.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the app and which external services may process requests for certain features.

Permissions and Device Features

Microphone

Used when you choose speech recognition or voice-input features inside the translator.

Internet and network state

Required for translation requests, tutor responses, AI word details, proxy-based speech generation, and Google Play purchase flows.

Camera and photo selection

The scan feature can use an image chosen from your library or captured through your device camera app. The reviewed Android manifest does not declare a direct camera permission; capture is delegated to the camera app through a file provider.

Audio playback and files

Used to play generated speech, feedback sounds, and temporary cached audio files created for playback.

If you deny permissions or disable connectivity, some features may not work correctly.

AI, Audio, and Scan Features

Translation, dictionary, tutor, and word-detail requests may be sent to an OpenAI-compatible proxy endpoint used by the app.
Some speech playback features may send text to an ElevenLabs-compatible proxy endpoint to generate audio.
If the remote speech service is unavailable, the app may fall back to your device text-to-speech engine where available.
Speech recognition relies on Android speech-recognition services when you use the microphone.
Image scanning uses on-device ML Kit text recognition on the selected or captured image.
Temporary scan images and generated audio may be written to app cache storage to complete the feature.

Premium Features and Local Storage

Premium subscriptions are currently offered through Google Play using monthly and yearly plans.
Google Play is the source of truth for entitlement status, while the app may cache premium state locally to improve startup behavior.
The app stores favorites, bookmarks, history, tutor messages, settings, and daily usage counters locally on your device until you clear app data or remove the app.
Free-tier daily limits may be used to manage translation, audio, and tutor usage where premium is not active.

ElevenLabs-compatible proxy infrastructure for generated audio playback.

Your email app when you choose to contact support.

Retention, Security, and Your Controls

Saved words, bookmarks, history, preferences, and tutor transcripts remain on your device until cleared or the app is removed.
Temporary media files used for scan or audio playback may be stored in app cache and later removed by the app or operating system.
Support emails may be retained for support, security, or record-keeping purposes.
You can revoke microphone access, stop using the scan feature, clear local app data, uninstall the app, or manage subscriptions through Google Play.
We use reasonable steps to protect information, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure.
